The cruel joke of AI for solo operators is that the people who would benefit most have the least time to figure it out. You are the sales team, the delivery team, and the admin department.
So here is the version with no studying. One tool, one task, one week.
Day one, pick both. One general assistant, ignore everything else. And your most repeated writing task, not your hardest one. For most solo operators that is inquiry replies, quote follow ups, or proposals. Repetition is where the hours hide.
Day two, teach it your voice in one sitting. What your business does, five to ten real examples from your sent folder, and your rules. Then have it do the task for a real piece of work, and correct the draft instead of starting over. The correcting is the teaching.
Days three through seven, run everything through it once. Every time the task comes up, draft with the assistant first, edit, send. Even when writing it yourself would be faster. By the end of the week your repeated edits have become your rules, written the hard way.
End of the week, save the briefing as a skill file so every future chat starts already trained. That one move turns an experiment into an employee.
What not to do in month one: automate anything customer facing, buy three more subscriptions, or build the full stack from a YouTube video. One task fully delegated beats five half delegated.
Keep score in hours, not features. You are not learning AI. You are getting Tuesday afternoon back.
